QBE SPONSORS MILLIONS AGAINST MALARIA

On 25 February 2010, QBE Insurance (PNG) Limited, QBE Insurance (International) Limited – Solomon Islands branch and QBE Insurance (Vanuatu) Limited, jointly announced that they became proud sponsors of the Millions Against Malaria project.

The mission, developed by two Australian pilots, Ken Evers and Tim Pryse, is to fly the first Australian designed and manufactured aircraft around the world and raise awareness about malaria issues.

The goal of the flight around the world, which is intended to commence on 20 March 2010 is to raise $1,000,000 to help fight against malaria.

Millions Against Malaria is working with two charities, the Australian Foundation for the Peoples of Asia and Pacific (AFAP) and Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF).  Both AFAP and MAF are heavily involved in combating malaria in many countries around the world.

Mr. Sylvain Flore, Regional General Manager Pacific Islands said: “QBE has a long history of commitment to the Pacific region.  As responsible insurers, we strive to offer financial safety and peace of mind to businesses and individuals. With malaria being an ongoing concern in some of the countries where we operate, we are delighted to support the Millions Against Malaria project, as we want to raise awareness in the community about the impact of the illness and help support programs that fight against it.”

He added that “the Millions Against Malaria website www.millionsagainstmalaria.com, is a wonderful resource to learn more about the flying mission. In addition people or businesses can support this mission by donating online to the associated charities”
